RIECS-Concept Workshop: Giving a Voice to Austrian Citizen Scientists
📅 On October 3, 2025, the OeAD in Vienna will host a workshop that places citizen scientists at the centre of the conversation.
✳️ Organised by OeAD’s Petra Siegele and Elisabeth Schauermann, the event is part of the pan-European initiative RIECS-Concept – Towards a pan-European Research Infrastructure for Excellent Citizen Science, which aims to strengthen and connect citizen science across Europe.
Why this workshop?
🌱 Citizen science thrives when research is open, inclusive, and collaborative. Yet, citizen scientists often face challenges – from technical barriers to questions about visibility and recognition.
✅ This workshop is designed to listen, exchange, and co-create solutions around three core questions:
✨ What challenges arise when participating in research?
✨ What technical tools or platforms would be helpful?
✨ How can data and research results be better communicated and networked?
✳️ By exploring these themes together, the workshop will help identify concrete ways to support citizen scientists and integrate their contributions into the broader European research landscape.

Towards a pan-European Research Infrastructure for Excellent Citizen Science
✳️ This workshop is part of the broader RIECS-Concept project. RIECS-Cocnept is working to develop a sustainable research infrastructure that supports citizen science across borders, ensuring that local initiatives – like this one in Austria – contribute to and benefit from a stronger European network.
Looking ahead
✨ The voices, experiences, and ideas shared at the Vienna workshop will help shape the future of citizen science infrastructures in Europe. By focusing on real needs and perspectives, RIECS-Concept and its partners aim to ensure that citizen science continues to grow as a vibrant, impactful, and inclusive part of research. ✨
